Product variants - Guide 3: Stock, prices, images and orders per variant

Every variant is synchronised on its own. Each variant gets its own stock level, its own price and its own image from its supplier product. When a customer orders a variant, Droppery orders exactly that supplier product.

Stock

Stock is synchronised separately for each variant. If Variant A has 10 units and Variant B has 0, your store shows 10 for A and 0 for B. A variant that is out of stock doesn't affect the other variants of the same product. Whether customers can still order a variant with 0 stock depends on your webshop settings. In Shopify, this is the option "Continue selling when out of stock". Keep it off for Droppery products, so customers can't order items the supplier doesn't have.

  • Stock updates in real time. When the supplier updates its stock in Droppery, the change is synchronised to your store straight away.
  • Stock only syncs one way. The supplier holds the stock, so availability flows from the supplier to Droppery to your store. Changing a stock level in your webshop doesn't change the supplier's stock.

Prices

Prices are synchronised separately for each variant. Different variants of the same product can have different prices. For example, a large size can cost more than a small one, because each variant follows the price of its own supplier product.

Pricing works the same for variants as for single products. You can set your own pricing rules and choose how prices are synchronised under Base information in your Droppery account.

Images

Each variant can have its own image. How many depends on your webshop platform, because Droppery follows each platform's rules. Shopify supports one image per variant, and WooCommerce supports multiple images per variant.

Image sync is optional. You can switch it on or off in your Droppery settings.

  • Image sync on. When the supplier updates its images, the matching images in your store update too. This also happens after variants are created or updated.
  • Image sync off. Droppery doesn't change your images. Choose this if you manage images yourself, so your own selections stay as they are.

! Important: If you have set different images for different variants in Shopify, switch image sync off to keep them. Otherwise supplier updates can replace them !

Orders

  • Droppery receives the exact variant the customer ordered. It looks up the mapping of that variant and orders the matching supplier product.
  • Variants and separate products are processed the same way. Each ordered item follows its own supplier connection, whether it is a variant or a separate product.
  • Orders with products from several suppliers are split. If one order contains items from different suppliers, Droppery splits it and sends each supplier its own part. This also applies to variants of one product that come from different suppliers. See Guide 5.
